Japan’s Slide in Global Digital Rankings

According to the 2023 edition of the World Digital Competitiveness Ranking, which was evaluated based on “knowledge,” “technology,” and “preparation for the future,” announced by IMD (a famous business school in Switzerland), Japan fell in the ranking for the second consecutive year, ranked at 32nd.

There are more than 200 countries in the world, and if the top 10% are considered “developed countries” just like the G20, then Japan, which ranks 32nd, is out of the developed ones. Japan’s self-proclaimed “digital superpower” is in decline year by year.

In the meantime, various surveys have shown that not only the government, which always calls out “DX” while demanding large amounts of paper but also the private sector, has a very low level of awareness. According to the “Awareness Survey on DX Business” conducted by IGS in 2021, approximately 30% of people working at large companies said, “If possible, I would not like to be involved in DX project,” and 44% of people had a negative attitude towards DX.

What on earth are the people who spend their entire time from morning till night using their state-of-the-art smartphones doing?

If this trend continues, we will inevitably fall far behind other countries.

We as a country inevitably undergo a major change in our mindset.
