Hidden Risk In Contracting a Server

In order to have your own website, you need to install a large system “web server”. Some large companies have this in-house, while over 90% of companies contract with an external server company to rent it. This is called a “rental server”. It is necessary not only for the website but also for sending and receiving emails.

This rental server is generally provided as a set by the agent when creating the website.

In the past, contracting a rental server required a certain amount of specialized knowledge, so it was more likely that you would just leave it to the agent who creates the website. However, now it is very easy to sign a contract without any prior knowledge and at a low price, so even small and medium-sized businesses and individual businesses that do not have a systems staff often apply on their own.

This in itself is a good thing as it saves money, but there are some caveats.

First of all, your website requires not only a server but also a domain and server certificate called, “SSL”. After understanding these correctly, you need to purchase it yourself along with the server.

What is even more important is the maintenance and management of server contracts, domain contracts, and certificate contracts.

Normally, servers require monthly to annual fees, domain contracts require annual fees, and certificates require annual renewals. If even one is forgotten, the website will not be displayed, so it is necessary to strictly manage it so as not to forget it.

Even if you’re a small business owner and have good office staff who accurately understand all contracts and monthly and yearly payments. Other than that, probably more than 90% of the cases, this is done by the president or the person in charge on many other jobs, and they very often forget about it

In addition, if you have any technical problems with your domain or server, your only option is to contact the rental company for support via email. Requesting technical support can be more difficult than you might imagine especially if you are not a technical person.

In this day and age, email and websites are indispensable lifelines for companies. Rather than choosing based on price alone, you want to make the right choice by considering the fact that you can manage it properly and reliably.
