According to the research, when such language is frequently used in presentations, the likelihood of receiving a negative analyst report increases by as much as 20%.<\/p>\n<p>In Japan as well, especially among older executives, war and combat metaphors are quite common.<\/p>\n<p>Phrases like:<br \/>\n\u201cThis year\u2019s summer sale will be a tough battlefield,\u201d<br \/>\nor<br \/>\n\u201cOur battle with Company A is a do-or-die situation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Many people use expressions like these, and some even quote The Art of War by Sun Tzu.<\/p>\n<p>This tendency isn\u2019t limited to external presentations, it also happens internally.<\/p>\n<p>While these metaphors are often meant to convey just how tough the situation is, it\u2019s likely that more people end up feeling discouraged rather than motivated by them.<\/p>\n<p>Something like \u201cLet\u2019s give it our all!\u201d is still fairly neutral, but saying \u201cSales is a life-or-death battle\u201d really doesn\u2019t suit the tone of today\u2019s workplace.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, this doesn\u2019t apply only to executives. Even department heads and team leaders can fall into the same habit.
